## Neighborhood

L’endroit est idéal pour profiter d’Haarlem tout en étant à 15 mn à pied de la gare pour rejoindre Amsterdam. Tout était bien organisé et conforme aux informations que nous avons reçues.

We had a wonderful time in Haarlem, you are extremely central and can walk everywhere. The view from the apartment is of the beautiful canal. The beds were comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed though please do note it does not have an oven only a microwave. Also we handled the stairs fine but they are steep stairs right upon entry so carrying up our large suitcase was tough. Our kids ages 5 and 9 handled it fine but something to note that I don't think we fully realized from the listing that there were more stairs than the ones in the pictures to the bedroom.

I had a wonderful stay with my two teenager girls in this beautiful apartment at the best address in Haarlem! What a house, full of history and a good tast for interior. You really need to be fit to climb the many stairs up to the apartment but totally worth it! The location is by far the best place in Haarlem and the sleeping room upstairs really the beautiful room to sleep, I've ever been! I parked outside the town on a park and ride spot for free for this week and jogged back at the canals but the bus or train station is nearby.
So I have to say, I recommend this apartment and the service with no regrets. It was perfect for us the women! We loved it!

The location was really lovely, on the canal side and surrounded by gorgeous shops, cafés, eating places and central for walking about the town. Haarlem is delightful, and we were able to visit the Saturday market on the square while we were there and enjoy a boat trip. It’s about a 20 minute brisk walk from the apartment to the station, and we got the train the The Hague and Amsterdam during our visit. The apartment is comfortable and spacious with views over the canal. There are a lot of steep stairs leading up from the front door and , once inside, a steep staircase leading up to the attic bedroom which we had to negotiate with care. I asked for a hairdryer, which was then provided, as it wasn’t on the original amenities list and is something you don’t want to take up space if you only have cabin luggage. We had several queries whilst there and the hosts were always quick to respond and helpful . It is also very convenient for Schiphol airport.

Some materials in the apt are out of date or missing (brochure had wrong check out time, old phone # to contact host). Windows need to be propped open (heat wave during our stay), but materials to prop open with minimal/hidden.

Fridge wouldn't close properly as it was poorly fitted and door would catch, therefore it was left open a few times due to this. Also fridge wasn't secured and would tilt forward when door opens.
Step into living room was loose and a trip hazard, reported on arrival, received a response but no one came to address this trip hazard.
Windows would open or very difficult to open, apartment was very stuffy and we were unable to allow air into the rooms.
Toilet is very small, to the point your knees are almost touching the door when you sit on the toilet!

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt in Haarlem. Die Wohnung hat uns gut gefallen. Das Wetter war sehr schön und die Wohnung wird dann sehr warm. Leider sind die Innen-Fenster etwas beschädigt, so dass man Schwierigkeiten hat, zu lüften.
Die DoppelBetten haben jeweils nur eine , wenn auch große Bettdecke. Es gibt keine Decken- Alternative.
Man sollte keine Probleme mit Treppen haben.
Die Wohnung hat einen herrlichen Ausblick und man wohnt sehr schön mitten im Zentrum, ohne dass es zu laut wäre.

Location cannot be beaten. Beautiful outlook on the River and close to an abundance of food choices and shops. Station is a pleasant 15 min walk. The steep stair climb to the apartment is challenging particularly with luggage but is totally worth the view and did not impede our stay at all. Beds were comfortable and accommodation was clean. We did have a trouble working the oven (no microwave) so appliance instructions would have been handy as we gave up in the end. Overall, we had a fantastic time in Haarlem and would not hesitate to stay here again.

WOW!! I can not say enough about how great this property is. Location is perfect, walkable to countless eateries and shops and beautiful scenery everywhere you look. Many have mentioned the stairs, yes, there are many steps so beware of the weight of the luggage you bring and just go slow, but honestly, I would say it is part of the charm. We did not cook at the apartment, but it seemed to be very well stocked if you wanted to. Beds were very comfy. Would certainly stay again if ever in the area!

Yes, the rental unit has steep steps, but that added to the charm and experience. My son had a rough time on the airplane, and messages about possibly checking in early were responded to quickly which was much appreciated.
We were all sad to say goodbye to Haarlem and to the cozy apartment. We stayed for four nights and none of us were ready to leave!

Positive:
The location is great. Shops, restaurants and cafés are all nearby. The view of the canal is beautiful. The accommodation unit is spacious. On a clear night you can even watch the moonlight right from the living room. Journeys to Amsterdam or the seaside can be made within an hour so it was convenient for visits and exploring the neighbouring areas.
Negative:
This place can really use some maintenance. The bathroom surfaces were not very clean when we arrived. The kettle was full of limescale and was just gross to use. The shower head gave a minimal jet. The hairdryer was broken at the cable's end, which can cause electrical hazards. The laundry machine was mouldy. The oven was there but was just with all knobs deliberately removed so that you cannot use it (the stovetop was functional, though). There is some kitchenware but no knives you can really cut ingredients with for some proper cooking. We were four people staying for four nights and were just provided 2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 laundry pod, 1 dish washer tablet, and some 30 mL of detergent for the dishes. As guests, apart from some cleaning before you could use the place more comfortably, you still need to discard the household rubbish in the end. The accommodation has its potential but to too many aspects it feels as if it were run by some cheapskates. Would recommend looking somewhere else if you want to stay at a place that welcomes you and gives you a cosy feeling of home.
Just the cherry on top of the cake: We were woken up by some banging noises right outside the windows and the roof at 8:30 am. It later turned out that there was maintenance work going on and workers were walking across the windows to dismantle scaffolds. For a while we thought someone was breaking in. The whole thing lasted for about an hour in the morning. A simple notice beforehand would have saved some shock and frustration for our holiday. As the aftermath, the agent was quick to respond via messages.

The apartment is also extremely hot and stuffy, specially the top bedroom. Some windows don't open. There were two fans, but they barely made a difference. Aircon really is needed for summer.

Good location overlooking canal, the apartment was as described and depicted. Very clean and the host, a management company, was responsive when I messaged them. Maintenance of oven, clothes washer and shower was needed, which they did offer to perform during our stay upon our messaging them, however my wife and I opted for privacy over interruption and we simply adapted.
Please be sure to consider the stairway, it is about 2.5 flights and is very steep with the individual steps being quite shallow. Before you discount this caution please know that my family stayed in two other apartments in Holland and they too were surprised by these stairs. We loved Haarlem and its a great place overall; we would consider returning, but if you have checked baggage you should consider hiring a Sherpa.

- Laundry *Washer only, and requires hang dry of your clothes. Thankful there are hangers in each closet
- Large dining table
I made communication with the VRBO host about an issue with the oven, and made note of several other bits of info and changes that would benefit future guest. So that brings me to the next section...
BAD :
- prepare yourself for the staircase! The first run of stairs going up is steep, and includes 2 additional spiral portions before making it to the main door. BEWARE THE LOW BEAM. I was focused on getting the kids up the stairs while dragging suitcases and doing my best not to fall, I completely overlooked the "Low Beam" on the second spiral portion of the stairs. Almost knocked myself unconscious on the first ascent!
- In the photos we were excited to find a place with a full kitchen and an oven! Sadly, the oven was not functional for out stay. After reviewing photos from the VRBO listing, it appears 2 of the buttons were missing. Upon our first attempt using after arrival, there were 4 buttons missing.
- Communication. We hadnt received communication from VRBO with key access or other useful information until after arriving at the door and making a request on the VRBO site. Standing outside with the family and suitcases wasnt expected.

We chose Haarlem as our home base for our trip to Holland. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to stay! This home was so clean and comfortable. It was perfect for exploring the area and close to the train station to go to Amsterdam. We rented bikes nearby and spent the day exploring the area, national park and even the seaside. It was such a cozy place and it felt like home. Highly recommended.

Die Fewo liegt super an der Saarne und zentrumsnah. Hoch zur Wohnung geht eine sehr steile Treppe. Für Älter schwierig und mit schwerem Gepäck eine Herausforderung. Sollte man erwähnen. Sonst ist die Wohnung gräumig und gut ausgestattet. Es waren pro Person ein Duschhandtuch und normales Handbuch da. Mehr Geschirrtücher wäre sinnvoll. Parken schwierig und teuer. Wir haben das Auto in Frontelein abgeparkt. Ca15 bis 20min zu Fuss und wesentlich billiger. Haarlem ist sehr schön und man kann alles mit dem Zug erreichen. Amsterdam Zandfoort Alkmaar.

L'alloggio proposto è stupendo e molto pulito. Dall'appartamento si raggiungono in pochi minuti tutti i luoghi più belli di Haarlem. La casa affaccia sul canale, è silenziosa ed è circondata da locali e ottimi ristoranti. L'interno è ricco di dettagli, la cucina è ben attrezzata. Meravigliosa la camera al piano di sopra. Le scale che portano all'appartamento sono molto ripide (non adatte a persone anziane). L'esperienza con Rental Valley è stata positiva. Nonostante un piccolo problema alla fine del nostro soggiorno, l'agenzia è stata reattiva ed ha mostrato un atteggiamento umile e propositivo. Torneremo presto ad Haarlem!

Las escaleras de acceso a la vivienda son de bastante dificultad, no son aptas para cualquier persona, además fue muy incómodo subir y bajar maletas.
La casa dispone de lavadora, pero no y facilitan ni tendedero ni una plancha, lo solicité al propietario y se negó a proporcionarlo.
La ubicación de la casa es muy buena y la ciudad muy agradable y bonita.

Das Objekt liegt in bester Lage. Der Blick aus dem WZ ist unbezahlbar. Die Schlafmöglichkeiten gehen zum ruhigen Hinterhof. Es gibt aber eine Reihe von Maßnahmen die anstehen. Die trüben den Gesamteindruck ein wenig, aber die Lage holt alles wieder raus. (schon klar da macht man ungern eine Woche Sanierungspause). Die Dusche benötigt einen Dichtungsring, die Jalousie im Arbeitszimmer ist Teil defekt, der Fenstermechanismus muß bei allen Fenstern überprüft werden im Wohnzimmer intensiver. Das Geschirr bedarf einer Auffüllung, im Kühlschrank ist das untere Fach gerissen die Pfannen und Topfgriffe sollten wieder einmal befestigt werden(Küche sonst ausreichend).
Über alles ein positives Feedback, mit leicht zu verdienender Luft nach oben. Die Unterlagen zur Abreise waren zwischen Auslage und Mail unterschiedlich. Viele Grüße Micharl Tiedke (PS. Ich biete mich gerne als Tester für weitere Objekte an ;-) )

Alles war wie erwartet für ein altes Grachtenhaus. Die Wohnung hat viel Charme und die hohen Decken machten es besonders. Einziger Kritikpunkt sind die Fenster. Fast überhaupt nicht zu öffnen und wenn nur wenige Zentimeter. Da wir Temperaturen von ca. 38/39 Grad hatten, waren die Nächte, besonders unter dem Dach dementsprechend. Die beiden Ventilatoren haben da auch nicht mehr viel geholfen. Abgesehen davon war es ein schöner Aufenthalt.

Charming apartment with modern furnishings, full kitchen, good internet, dining table, couch and TV, two comfortable bedrooms, and a study with large desk and chair. You can really feel at home here. Beautiful water view over the Spaarne. Note for anyone who has problems climbing stairs: this apartment is at the top of a typical Dutch staircase (very steep) and once inside, the 2nd B/R is at top of a spiral staircase. Location is about 20 minutes' walk from central train station, closer to Grote Markt and museums. Lots of nice restaurants and shops nearby. Large sunny windows, lovely in cool weather, but not all of them open easily and there is no A/C, so it might not be the best choice in high summer. Tip for getting to airport: take the #300 bus -- there is a stop about 10 minutes' walk away.

This 400 year old canal house is a gem, but the decor and amenities do not live up to the possibilities that this property could offer. This accommodation was pretty clean, but very very basic. Reminded us of staying a buddy’s flat while he is out of town for Spring Break from University. Would I stay here again… yes definitely for the location… but not for making me feel like a valued guest.

When we arrived we immediately noticed that the internet speeds were not fast enough for regular usage (it ranged between 5MB/s and 8MB/s). We couldn't even normally check emails, even less work. Since we rented the place in order to be able to work together as a team there, this rendered it useless. When we reached out to support, we received no solution or offer to offset this. We spent the rest of our stay trying to solve this issue.
After that, we noticed that one of the beds did not have the sheets changed before our stay (we found human scabs on them). When we reached out to support, we asked that they confirm an appointment time to come solve this. Instead, someone showed up without warning, and really scared us. After that, we noticed the other bed also had dirty bedsheets and pillow cases, and the towels we were given were stained. There was also hair in the shower wall, and soap on the stand. This place is being mismanaged, which is a shame, since it's in a great location.

A week before we arrived, I read the terrible reviews from May & June 23. So I contacted the management company "Rental Valley" to express my concern & asked if they would try to address the situation before we checked in. No one responded for 5 days so I chased again. Then Alvaro from Rental Valley responded & said he has 'reached out' to the cleaning & maintenance team. That was the last I heard from him. Every issue that was mentioned in the May & June reviews had not been resolved: door handles falling off doors, dirty & broken window frames that had been screwed closed, holes in the dirty walls, dust on the beams, broken smoke alarms discarded in the cupboards (also old cables & a no-smoking sign that had fallen off the wall), the smell of mould in the hallway, a dirty toilet that's obviously never been cleaned (we have pics), mugs without handles, towels that are old, stained & frayed. Sad fact is, all of these things are easily fixed if the owner or Rental Valley actually cared

The appartement was cozy, you feel at home.. Great area with all kind of good restaurants, public transport, musea around you. Within 1 hour you will be at Museums in Amsterdam. Appartement way cheaper then in Amsterdam.

We encountered some minor defects on arrival, mailed to team and for us was ok to fix when we left. Had to get used to the steep stairs.

Although cute and great location, it is not accessible with 3 extremely steep flights of stairs. The apartment is in a general sense of disrepair with broken door handles, broken faucets, the fridge is cracked and freezer would not close. With no AC available the windows are extremely heavy to open and no way to securely keep them open other than with a block of wood. When checking in we arrived at the designated time and they were still cleaning yet we found trash on the floor and we had to rewash dishes in order to use them.
The place is cute but definitely needs some TLC. Communication was good through the app when having any problems. Great view of the river and great location for restaurants.

A dirty and completely worn apartment, stained bed linen, hair sticking to the kitchen and bathroom door, dirty and broken window frames, stained carpet and seating, holes in the dirty walls, fridge makeshift repaired with duct tape,
door handles falling off in the bathroom and loose hardware in the toilet, broken blinds on the windows, wobbly bedside lamps and loose screwed spotlights.
Dirty and thickly dust-covered wooden beams. The third room is cluttered with furniture and not usable.
The email correspondence about the deficiencies suggests that the management seems to know nothing about the current condition of the apartment.
So if you want to get really angry and feel ripped off for your money during your vacation, this is the place for you.

It's an old house and therefore quirky. That is fine. It is not fine that the TV does not work, the kitchen is poorly equipped, pans are falling apart, instructions for the oven are missing. I really expect more for this price.

This rental was in the heart of Haarlem. We enjoyed the easy access to restaurants, shopping and the train. The place is very simple, but has what you need. It’s is a bit dated, but the beds were comfortable. The bathroom and shower are not connected, but that worked out well.

The internal stairs up to the property are very steep so would not be accessible to all.
The apartment would have benefited from some additional mugs, a toaster/or grill and a working dishwasher. Whenever we tried to use the dishwasher, the electricity cut out. Aside from these issues, the place would have been a really great place to stay.

The place was located in an excellent area, but we think that the place needs a bit of maintenance, we could not open the windows to get fresh air. The stairs to get to the apartment were too steep and the humidity smell in the staircase was pretty bad.

Er is een stijle trap naar boven, hoe hoger je komt in het trappenhuis werd ook de stank heviger. Ook in de keuken hing een zeer vieze lucht, mogelijk door het ontbreken van een afzuigkap. De raambekleding werkte niet of niet naar behoren en ook miste er een lamp in de slaapkamer beneden, waardoor je savonds nauwelijks licht hebt.
Het appartement ligt centraal bij het centrum, er is voldoende parkeergelegenheid in de buurt en we hadden geen geluidsoverlast.
